Introduction to a Future Dentist or CEO, Who Knows?

Me, mom, dad, and the not so little brother
Hey all! I hope everyone is loving the first week back to classes, I know I am loving every minute! Well let me tell you some of my quirks and just about myself.

I am very academically driven and always give my 110% on anything I do. My belief is that work while you work, study while you study, and always put your heart into what you are doing, if your heart is not in the task then it really is not worth anything. I am a social bee and love every minute of my time spent interacting with others. I grew up in a household where we have always valued the feelings of people above all else and believed that community service should always being on the calendar. Servitude is near and dear to my heart and any free time I have I can be found in the soup kitchen, food pantry, or tutoring in schools.

Okay, so let's get to what you all are probably really wanting to know, what is this girl majoring in if she is still deciding between become a CEO or a dentist. Well, I added accounting and finance in addition to my biology major. So in about two and a half years I'll be coming fresh out of OU with three degrees and hopefully have decided if the DAT was the way to go or the MBA route. Wondering by accounting and finance of all things, well you could say that business runs in my blood. I love the thrill that I get while crunching numbers and when things balance out and when I sign checks. Biology is a challenge and I enjoy the fact that I have to work hard to get my grades in my science classes. I am biased and tend to like my business majors a tad bit more just because there are so many more opportunities to be involved in the Price College of Business.

My best class I took last semester was my accounting class, because it was my easiest class. With all the ups and downs of last semester my biggest accomplishment is that I survived evolution and made the grades that I wanted. What better way to end a tough semester than a trip to the place that makes you happy, for me that is India. For me it was a much needed trip that let me clear my head from school stress and feel like I could take in fresh air. I've gone to India about 17 times now and it never get old. Some of my most favorite places are in India as you probably saw in my earlier post this week!

Favorites?  That's always tough, but what can I say I have always been a Harry Potter fan from day 1. Would you all believe me if I told I actually listen more to Hindi songs and watch more Hindi movies than English ones? My all time favorite movie is Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and love listening to Yeh Ladka Hai Allah. Just because my career dreams are all over the place I am still living it up like a college student, eating anything and everything and not being able to pick a favorite. I love food and all things related. My passion for cooking food stems from my parents who are the stars of our kitchen at home. When we cook we love to dance and sing and make sure we laugh a lot and make some very tasty food items. My mom makes about 99% of her dishes from scratch so when the time comes to make something from a box my brother and I know to put in a little effort and make a better tasting dish from scratch.

With school, volunteering, and work, my gym is my place to decompress from the long day. I started Cross Fit about two years ago and have loved every day of it. In addition whenever some time free time comes I love to cook, dance with my little cousins, and watch movies.

Thanks for reading! I know that was a lot, but in a nutshell I am a busybody and enjoy working in whatever form it may be. I love life and enjoy every moment of it!

  1. Hi Mansi! I like the dedication and passion you have towards everything in your life. I also value community service and spend a majority of my time volunteering. That’s crazy that you have three degrees and I wish you the best of luck on choosing the path that suits you best! I am a huge Harry Potter fan too! I lost count of how many times I have read the series!

  2. Hi Mansi! I think it's really cool how many times you've gotten to visit India! I'm curious about international travel, as the only place I've gone outside the US was about thirty miles into Canada. The world is this big, wonderful place, and I'll be so sad if I don't get to see distant but beautiful places outside my home. It sounds like you've made a nice bed for yourself academically. I think having a lot of choices helps to calm the nerves. When you're interested in more than one thing, you've always got a backup plan. So many medical (and even dental) students seem to place all their eggs in one basket, and I think it's great that you've found a way to avoid that mistake.

I look forward to reading your posts throughout the semester!

  3. Hello Mansi, my name is Chelsea Ton! I will have to admit, I love your blog's URL. I think it was very creative and punny. I think it is very admiring how hardworking and driven you are! Although you are torn between being a dentist or being a CEO, I think with your drive and passion, you can do both! You are literally goals. I look forward to reading more of your blog!

  4. I totally understand that career dilemma, Mansi: there are so many great careers out there, each with its own fascinating opportunities and challenges. And I have to tell you about the career of Devdutt Pattanaik, who is one of my favorite Indian writers (a lot of his books are on the reading list options): he started out in the medical field, and THEN he went into business (he wrote a book called Business Sutra - so cool!)... and now he is a full-time mythologist, India's most famous mythologist at the moment. Here he is at Twitter: @devduttmyth ... so, you never know: you follow one path, and it is full of adventure... but that path can lead you to places you maybe didn't even imagine from the start. Which makes it even more of an adventure! :-)

  5. Hi Mansi! Thanks for commenting on my page! I am taking a break from my genetics homework and thought to check out other people that are in this class. I really appreciate your interest in both business and becoming a dentist! I can definitely understand the pickle you feel. Also, that's awesome that you have been to India 17 times! Wow!
Anyways, I thought you might appreciate hearing about a business leadership program I have been involved in since being at OU these past two years called Southwestern Advantage! I'm actually a letters constitutional studies major with a premed and business interest as well and I think you might really like this opportunity if you have not heard about it yet!
If you're interested in checking it out you can comment on another one of my posts or just reply to this post!

I'm looking forward to reading your thoughts!

    1. Hey! I've heard of Southwestern Advantage a few times now, but since it takes place during the summer I haven't been able to do it, because of my volunteering commitments. Wow you're a Letters major, I know of very few people who are doing that, from what I have heard it is no easy fleet by any means. By the way, which genetics are you? I have Dr. Thompson at 10:30, that man is hilarious!

  6. Hi Mansi! WOW, I am so impressed with your lifestyle. I am also inspired by your many passions and goals, I feel like that is something that is rare to find and yours is so diverse. Thank you for sharing about the Hindi movies! I am definitely going to check those out soon. Also very jealous of the homecooking that goes on in your home, home cooked meals are by far my favorite meals. Thank you for sharing and hope you enjoy this class!

  7. Hi Mansi! It is so great to hear that you are enjoying the semester so far, I like coming back to school as well. As far as your degree programs go, that is amazing that you have 3 majors and are creating so many options for yourself, CEO or dentist is a tough choice! I hope you find your true passion and have a great semester!

  8. Hey Mansi! It is always great to hear someone else talk about cooking the same way I do. It is a bit of a bummer to find time for it during college when openings in the schedule are so scarce, but that’s alright. Anyways, good luck in all of your degrees, and I hope you find which one works best for you!

  9. Hey Mansi!
First off, I love the design and layout of your blog! Also, I think the personal photo you added to your introduction was a nice touch. I think its so neat that you are majoring in both accounting and finance and biology! Further, I hope you are having a great semester and I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog!

  10. Hi Mansi! My name is Chelsea Journee! You seem like such a driven and dedicated person! I think that your devotion to serving people is a really unique quality to have. I personally love volunteering as well. I am a Big Sister in he Big Brothers Big Sisters of America program in Norman. I am a mentor to an elementary-aged girl and I visit her every week to help her with studying and normally we just talk and hang out. Have you ever heard of Big Brothers Big Sisters?

  11. Hey Mansi! It was so cool reading about all your different passions! Your majors leave a lot of room open for you later in life to have different adventures and explore different areas. You may even be able to combine them if you opened your own practice! That's so cool that you've gotten to visit India so many times, I would really love to visit one day. I bet it's neat reading the epics when you have gotten to experience India firsthand so many times!

  12. Hello Mansi! Wow, you do so much I can't even begin to imagine what I would do if I had all those things going on in my life! I like how you are so diverse, growing up I always tried to do different things. My dad always told me that you have to figure out what you don't like to understand what you love. I'm also in Price and totally understand where you're coming from with there being more things to do! Congrats on your degrees, and I look forward to checking out your blog throughout the semester!

  13. Hi Mansi,
Wow you are so driven, can you give me some of that? I have senoritas and am so ready to graduate this May. I am so proud of you for all that you are doing and I do not even know you. Your family must be so proud of you too. That is so cool that you've been to India. I would love to travel more when I graduate. This May I am taking my mom on a cruise so hopefully that kick starts it. I hope you have a great next few years!

  14. Hi Mansi,
I think it is awesome that you are so driven about everything you do. The drive to be the best you can is very inspiring, and I also attempt to do that in my daily life, though sometimes I just get lazy. I took some accounting classes a few semesters ago, and they were very enjoyable for me. I always find it interesting to see who enjoys accounting, because most people I know absolutely dread that class.

  15. Hey Mansi! It is great to finally meet you! After reading your introduction, I am sure that you are very driven. It is really cool that you are doing 3 different majors. Do you have a preference towards a certain major? I know that I have a lot of different interests too, so I have three minors. Anyways, good luck with everything that you are doing!

  16. Hi Mansi! Your motivation (and 3 majors) is a little intimidating, but very admirable. I'm both impressed and jealous of your drive. I believe everyone has the chance to make a difference in other people's lives, and I really admire you (and your family's) dedication to serving and helping people in need. All that, and crossfit too? Way to go!

  17. Hey Mansi!
I can not believe you are going to end up with three degrees! That is crazy awesome and very admirable. You will have so many options for careers when you graduate. You seem to have a great work ethic, which will definitely serve you well as you pursue your three degrees. I am excited to see your take on this class since you have experience with Indian culture first hand.

  18. Nice to meet you Mansi!
I have just finished up reading your introduction and you appear to be a very impressive person. I thought I was cool with two degrees and a minor, but I cannot even imagine what it would be like to get three degrees. I too use the gym as my happy place. I put my headphones in and destress from school and life in general.

  19. Hi Mansi! Wow, you sound so passionate about your two different career options! I wish there was a way for you to get the best of both worlds, but that seems like it would be hard to find. I wish I had your taste for cooking; I find it difficult to will myself to spend any extra time making food, but any time people mention home cooked meals my mouth starts watering.

  20. Hi Mansi! This is an incredible dream you have for your life. I am excited for where the passions and heart you have will take you! I feel like you definitely could incorporate both into your life at some point, whether they work together and complement one another or you switch at some point of your life. I definitely commend you for being such an excellent cook, while I love cooking I definitely could use some skills and add some diversity (the extent is usually chopping vegetables or baking cookies). Thank you for sharing your life with us! Have a great week 11.

  21. Hey Mansi! You seem to be a very impressive person full of passion! Gym is also my happy place as six years of military got me very used to gym setting. I hope that you can keep your passion and keep going for a brighter future!

  22. Hey Mansi, I cannot believe you have three different majors you are pursuing. I fill exhausted just trying to fit in classes and life for one major. I was happy to read that you are a Harry Potter fan. I also love the books and have a slight obsession for Harry Potter. This was really the first book series that I read and I think it helped shape the type of books I enjoy reading (mainly series books). I hope you get a chance to take break and go on a trip this summer! Good luck in your classes!
